Construction

The proof of concept model that will be pitched to the company HF HAUFF will be built at the Central Washington University in the Hogue Technologies building. The stock that is used to fashion the telescoping beam came from Western Metals in Ellensburg, all other hardware was purchased from ACE hardware.

The machines that were used to build the project are: vertical mill, drill press, cold saw, ban saw, a bench grinder, and a TIG welder.  Both the larger outside beam and the smaller inside beam are created in a similar fashion. a three foot section of square steel tubing was cut from a much larger piece of stock.  A vertical mill was then used to cut holes on the both sides of both beams that will later be used to route the steel braided cable through the device. A ban saw is used to cut small sections of aluminum out into long rectangles, and a drill press to place holes into the rectangles which will be welded onto the top and bottom of the outer beam for the rolling guides. A drill press was also used to insert a hole into which a round piece of stock will be welded into place where the spring operated retraction device will be located.
